Water is the key source at the hunting time of the year. There are 2 consistent water sources on the property; a natural water source that is an earthen tank (fed by runoff) and a year around wildlife guzzle. Native grasses and forbs (drought tolerant) have been planted and survived providing the seed heads and the ability for forbs to emerge for feed for the deer. The 320 acres is 65% cover and 35% open pastures. The habitat includes but is not limited to Pinyon Pines, Juniper, Pine, scrub oak, bitterbrush, and native, and re-seeded semi-native grasses. There are some rim rock area that the deer prefer for cover and bedding. The property is located between Albuquerque and Farmington off of Highway 550 outside of a small town called Lindrith New Mexico. There aren?t many people and only a few roads and that is why it is so good for deer hunting.
HUNTING DETAILS
THE ARCHERY DEER SEASON IS SEPTEMBER 1-22
At this time of the year the property will be only containing locals that are around all year and move back and forth across the properties and the neighboring properties. These deer are less than 150 usually most likely due to easy access to the deer from the local ranches. There is another water source that is seasonal contain water from August until the spring time or early summer that is located in the rim rock(See Map) The property has two 2-Track roads from the green oil tanks and their access and is checked usually every other day. The archery deer success has historically been in the 33% success range. There is no doe hunt.
Hunting strategies include spot and stalk from lookout points and sitting in hunting blinds near water sources and/or trails. The area has plenty of cover for an archer to be successfully hidden and successfully taking a buck.

THE RIFLE DEER SEASON IS NOVEMBER 4-10
The bucks are beginning to get into the pre-rut and the local doe herd draws bucks from the Jicarilla and Forest area providing some larger bucks in the 160?s, 28? wide category and possibly larger. There are two high points on the property that would provide a point to glass the area to watch for deer movement. Then it would tend to be a spot and stalk hunt. The bedding areas are left undisturbed and the bed to feed trails are quite recognizable. Because of this patterning the deer is quite easy from the high point and glassing. The standard wins are west to east. In the past it has been 100% fill for the rifle hunters and less than that for the archers.
